In 2003 we decided to purchase a home with 5 acres so that we could raise our kids out in the country away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our neighbors had two little Nubian doe kids for sale and they were so cute and adorable that we began our journey into being goat ranchers. Shortly after getting our two Nubian doelings we discovered the South African Boer Goat while visiting the Oregon State Fair. I thought they were the coolest looking goat that I had ever seen and I told my husband, Nick, that I HAD TO HAVE SOME!! So, the research began....
When our doelings turned into yearlings, we decided to breed them. We searched for breeders in our area and found Copper Creek Boers (www.coppercreekboers.com) owned and operated by Becki and Jonathan Crighton (located now in La Center, WA). Becki and Jonathan were wonderful to meet and were so patient with all of the questions we had. We soon decided to breed our does to one of their bucks at the time and we were blessed with some pretty awesome percentage babies our first time out. Our love of the boer goats temperament, muscling and overall sweetness led us to continue on.
11 years later we ran two small herds of boer goats. We have a small commercial herd of percentage and fullblood does that give us wonderful market wethers and meat goats. And our herd of percentage and fullblood show does has produced some outstanding does and bucks for us that just keeps improving every year. We strive for the overall HEALTH and well being of our goats while maintaining the quality and correctness expected in the standards for the South African Boer Goat breed. ALL of our goats have been tested and are CAE/CL Free.
Two years later our daughter, Halie was given a wonderful opportunity from Charles and Louise Goudge of TLC Boer Goats and was allowed to breed a of couple of our does to their bucks. We learned so much about genetics and how to improve on the foundation of our herd. The results have been outstanding. We owe a lot of gratitude to both Copper Creek Boers and TLC Boer Goats for helping us lay down the groundwork for an amazing foundation for our herd and being able to continue to improve upon that foundation.
As of June 2015 we are proud to announce that Halie and Ryan have taken over all aspects of the farm as a brother-sister team and run it as their own. They have grown leaps and bounds over the years with Ryan's primary focus on the commercial aspect and Halie's on the show side of things. Since Halie and Ryan have taken over they have introduced new bloodlines that have drastically improved their herd. I look forward to seeing what else Halie and Ryan do as time continues and am excited to see what they can accomplish now that they operate the farm.
Over the years our goats have made us lots of new friends with other breeders, 4-H/FFA kids and other fun people who are just curious about South African Boer Goats. It has been a fun journey and I can't wait to see what waits for us around the next corner. We are very strong supporters of 4-H/FFA and we do offer discounts to kids that are looking for project animals. Please feel free to contact us anytime with questions, we would love to meet you.
